This edition of the Sunday Summary is coming to you from our van which is parked in the highest city in the U.S.! We're spending the next couple of weeks here so I can acclimate as much as possible and finish training for my biggest challenge yet. More on that below, but first I have a ton of updates for you! Limited Time Elevated Credit Card Offers (Over $2,000 in Free Travel) It's an exciting time in the world of miles and points! The two cards below rarely offer increased sign up bonuses, so this is an unexpected treat. If you have room in your wallet for an extra card (or two), each of these cards will help you earn over $1,000 in free travel! 1. Capital One Venture Rewards ($95 annual fee) The Capital One Venture Rewards card is the little brother to the more popular Capital One Venture X card, and it usually doesn't get the attention it deserves. However, the little brother is currently getting his 15 minutes of fame thanks to a limited time increased sign up bonus. Right now, if you sign up for the Capital One Venture Rewards card, you are going to get the usual 75,000 point sign up bonus. PLUS, a $250 travel credit. That means this sign up bonus alone is worth over $1,000 in free travel, and the annual fee is only $95 which makes this a no-brainer! Neither Kara or I currently hold this card, but we're both planning on applying this weekend :) We don't know how long the offer is going to last, so if you're interested - click the link below to read Daily Drop's detailed review of the card:
2. My Personal Favorite Small Business Credit Card We currently run three businesses, and we have 3 of these credit cards (one for each business) because it is hands down the best "all-around" card for small businesses. The 120,000 point sign up bonus is the highest sign up bonus that has ever been offered on this card. The points can be redeemed for $1,200 cash back, or $1,500 worth of free travel through the ______ portal, or even more if you're a savvy traveler and know how to transfer these points to airline and hotel programs! Sorry for the slightly cryptic wording in this section. This particular bank is weird and doesn't like it when we use "branded terms" in emails, but for some reason it's totally fine on websites. So, click the link below to get all the details about this offer from our amazing Daily Drop team!
P.S. If you think you qualify for a small business credit card, read this first! Life Recently I haven't sent an email since telling you about Kara's diagnosis in one of our recent videos. If you missed that, you can find it linked down below. Long story short, she was recently diagnosed with epilepsy, which has lead to us spending more time in the U.S. this year. While this wasn't the original plan, I think slowing down a bit has been really good for both of us, and it's given me time to pursue my biggest challenge yet! Life Update (Diagnosed with Epilepsy) I think it's been over a month since I've sent one of these emails, so I'll quickly catch you up on where we've been and what we've been up to. I'll link the corresponding videos below, and you can watch if you want more details. Shortly after learning about Kara's diagnosis, we celebrated our 11 year anniversary. We have learned that her two biggest seizure triggers are sleep deprivation and stress, so I thought I should plan something a bit more relaxing than our 2023 anniversary celebration which involved trekking deep into the Indonesian jungle and spending a few nights sleeping on the floor with a remote tribe (romantic, I know). So this year, we went on a slightly more relaxing adventure to Joshua Tree where we spent four nights sleeping in very comfortable beds in Joshua's Tree's wildest Airbnbs - which included a house made completely of glass with 100 ft indoor swimming pool. What's Inside Joshua Tree's Craziest Airbnbs From Joshua Tree, we flew back to Nashville to move back into the van, but first we spent a week with our families and celebrated my niece's 6th birthday at Dollywood! From Nashville, we made the 10 hour drive to Dallas for Kara's follow-up appointment. The good thing about Kara's neurologist being in Dallas is that her sister's family lives there, so it's a great excuse for her to spend extra time with her nephews. From Dallas, we made the 14 hour drive to Leadville, Colorado where I announced my next big challenge. If you haven't heard yet, you can watch the end of the video below or just read the "What's Next" section below. Moving Back into the Van + a big announcement We're spending most of the summer in Colorado, but we did squeeze in a quick trip the Netherlands for an event that we have been trying to get into for the last four years. It's called the 4 Day March, and it's the largest event in the Netherlands every year. Over 45,000 show up to walk 100+ miles over the course of 4 days, and another 1.6 million decent on the city to party and cheer on the walkers. It's bizarre, painful, and so much fun! We'll be publishing a 1 hour video from the 4 Day March on Saturday, and we can't wait to share this crazy experience with you! What's Next From the Netherlands, we hobbled back to Colorado so I could continue my training for the LEADVILLE 100 which takes place on August 17th. The Leadville 100 is a 100 mile ultra marathon which takes place in and around the mountains of the highest incorporated city in the U.S. The furthest I have ever run is 30 miles, and on August 17th I am going to attempt to run 100 miles in 30 hours on one of the hardest ultra marathon courses in the world. Here's the course description copy and pasted directly from their website. The LT100 Run course is a brutal out-and-back ultramarathon that will push even the toughest runners to their limits. The course starts and finishes in Leadville, but the true challenge is the rugged and unrelenting terrain along the way. The course includes steep climbs of Powerline, high-altitude passes like Sugarloaf, and technical terrain on the Colorado Trail, all amounting to over 18,000 feet of elevation gain. The course reaches a peak elevation of 12,600 feet above sea level on the crux of the course, Hope Pass, where runners will gasp for breath and question their sanity. The LT100 Run race course is not for the faint of heart, but for those who are up to the challenge, it is an unforgettable experience. A small handful of you who are in the running community probably think this is cool, and the majority of you probably think I'm completely crazy. I'll try to explain myself, but I doubt it will help, haha. We first learned about the Leadville 100 (and 100 mile races in general) when we first visited Leadville back in 2020. At that time, like many of you probably do now, I thought the idea of running 100 miles in one go sounded complete crazy. But as Kara and I have continued to do more and more crazy things and expand our comfort zones, the thought of attempting one of these 100 miles started sounding less crazy, and in a weird way, more appealing. In the back of my mind, I secretly planned to attempt a 100 mile race one day, but I definitely didn't intend on doing it in 2024. Then, about two months ago, I got the unexpected opportunity to enter the Leadville 100. This was a massive opportunity! Every year thousands of people enter the lottery for this race, but only 800 get in. So there was no guarantee that I would I have this opportunity again anytime soon! Plus, it would allow Kara and I to have a reason to hang out in the U.S. for the summer while she adjusted to her medicine. And even though the Leadville course is one of the hardest, it's a super special place to us, and I wouldn't want to run my first ultra anywhere else. So for all of these reasons, I decided I couldn't pass up the opportunity to say yes and learn what my body is capable of! I've never really trained for any of our physical challenges before. We usually just show up and hope for the best. But I've devoted the last two months of our lives to training for this race. If I'm being completely honest, I feel so much more pressure than usual...but at the same time, I'm looking forward to this more than anything else this year. I can't believe it's only two weeks away. On one hand, I'm about to start winding down my training to rest for the race, and I feel like it will be here any minute. But at the same time, sitting with all these emotions for the next two weeks makes it feel like it's a lifetime away...
